County State of Emergency Declared
Wilson County Board of Commissioner Chairman Rob Boyette signed a County State of Emergency today along with County Manager Denise Stinagle. “This positions the county to continue to effectively respond and to utilize resources to promote the safety and protection of our citizenry,” said Ron Hunt, Assistant County Manager.
While signing the declaration, Chairman Boyette stated “These decisions are difficult. The health and safety of our citizens is always our top priority. Our thoughts and prayers go out to families world-wide that are effected. Let's all continue to keep in our prayers our healthcare workers and responders throughout our county, state and nation that are on the front lines and that are helping people every day and putting their own lives at risk.”
“Wilson County’s Health Department staff along with Emergency Management, county departments and community partners have been preparing for many weeks,” said Denise Stinagle, County Manager. “This State of Emergency will assist us as we continue our preparations and response. Our top priority is the safety of our citizens.”
Proclamation of a County State of Emergency
Section 1. Pursuant to the Wilson County Emergency Management Ordinance and NCGS 166-A , and NCGS 14-288.1(10), I have determined that a State of Emergency exists in Wilson County due to Covid-19 (Corona Virus). On March 10, 2020, Governor Cooper declared a State of Emergency for NC for Covid-19 and on March 13, 2020, President Trump declared a national emergency for Covid-19.
Section 2. Pursuant to the Wilson County State of Emergency Ordinance and NCGS 166-A, I therefore proclaim the existence of a State of Emergency in Wilson County.
Section 3. I hereby order all county emergency management personnel, emergency services personnel, law enforcement officers and employees subject to my control and request all other governmental entities within the County to cooperate in the enforcement and implementation of any or all county emergency ordinances as needed.
Section 4. I hereby delegate Denise Stinagle, County Manager and/or her designee, all power and authority granted to me and required of me by NCGS 166-A and the Wilson County Emergency Management Ordinance for the purpose of implementing the Wilson County Emergency Operations Plan and to take such further action as necessary to promote and secure the safety and protection of the populace of Wilson County.
Section 5. I hereby order this proclamation to be distributed to the news media and other organizations calculated to bring its contents to the attention of the general public and to be distributed to others as necessary to assure proper implementation of this proclamation.
Section 6. This declaration does not prohibit or restrict lawfully possessed firearms or ammunition or impose any limitation on the consumption, transportation, sale, or purchase of alcoholic beverages, as provided in N.C.G.S. 166A-19.30 (C)
Section 7. This proclamation shall become effective immediately and shall continue until it is terminated in writing.
