Commissioners approve mobile dental clinic
At the September Commissioners' Meeting, commissioners approved a new collaborative effort between the Wilson County Health Department and Wilson County Schools called the Wilson Area School Health Dental Program. Commissioners appropriated $535,569 for the program. Funds from the sale of Wilson County Home Health will be used for the program.
The program includes: preventative and clinical dental services to Wilson County school-aged children and pregnant women who have Medicaid or are uninsured, a mobile clinic housed on a truck, basic dental equipment and appliances, collaboration with the Wilson Area School Health clinics, and staffing with a dentist, dental assistant and an office assistant.
The program targets children who have Medicaid or are uninsured and do not have a dental home. The goal will be to get to all of Wilson County's public schools and to offer services during the summer.
