Disaster Food Assistance now available in Wilson County

WCDSS is currently providing Disaster Food Assistance.

This program, through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is open to individuals not normally eligible for Food and Nutrition Services benefits, who were affected by Hurricane Matthew. 

The Wilson County DSS’ application site will operate for FIVE days, Oct. 27 through Oct. 31, 2016, from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. in Building 2, which is located behind the main DSS building  at 100 Gold Street, Wilson, NC. Residents should enter Building 2 on the warehouse entrance to the left side of the building.

Residents in Wilson County who are not currently receiving Food and Nutrition Services benefits may qualify for temporary assistance for a one-month period if:

  • their home was damaged or destroyed,
  • they have disaster-related expenses,
  • they lost income,
  • they had food loss as a result of a power loss of at least eight hours from Hurricane Matthew. 

Eligibility is based on available income and resources.

Those applying for Disaster Food and Nutrition Services benefits will be asked to provide:

  • proof of their identity along with proof of residency, such as a utility bill,
  • and the social security numbers, if available, and dates of birth for all members of their household. 

Households living in Wilson County may continue to use their Food and Nutrition Services Benefits to purchase hot prepared meals from authorized retailers until November 14, 2016.
