Wilson County DSS is proud to be recognized by national, state and local officials as having best practices and innovation.  Here are few awards that recognize the vital work that we do for our citizens:

Awards

  • Wilson’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program has won a Ketner Award for outstanding service and participation.
  • Wilson DSS has received the NC Department of Labor Safety Award for 11 consecutive years as having outstanding safety performance for a human services agency.

2003-2004

  • Glenn Osborne, Director, was selected as 2004 Director of the year by the North Carolina Association of County Directors of Social Services (NCACDSS).
  • Amber Denning, Career Plus Human Services Coordinator was chosen as one of ten state-wide winners of the 2003-2004 Ketner Employee Productivity Awards Program.

2004-2005

  • Recipient of two Ketner Employee Productivity Awards for innovation and cost efficiency by the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners.  Child Care Subsidy and Upfront Fraud Investigations Teams were recipients.
  • Child Support state award for exceeding paternity establishment goals and the State award for exceeding self assessments
  • Child Support recognized for exceeding cases under order goals

2005-2006

  • Child Support state award for exceeding paternity establishment goals and the State award for exceeding self assessments
  • Child Support is recognized by the Wilson County Board of Commissioners for developing the Child Support Judicial Team Initiative and structured enforcement agents into two areas: enforcement and judicial. This structure allows agents to focus more quality time on processing cases and efficiently reviewing cases more frequently.
  • NCSSA (North Carolina Social Services Association) Chapter of the Year
  • Child Support recognized by the state for making the greatest progress on the nine factor performance review report (Child Support moved from a ranking of 45 in the state to 29.)

2006-2007

  • Foster Care and Adoptions Team received the Challenge for the Children Award for participating successfully for several consecutive years.

2007-2008

  • Faith Connections has been recognized as a National Best Practice for faith based/social service innovative program.
  • Food Assistance recognized for outstanding excellence in Food and Nutrition Services to the citizens of Wilson County.  The award celebrates the department’s excellence in payment accuracy, claims management and program access, which includes participation and application timeliness.
