Solid Waste District

The county operates 12 convenience centers (collection sites) for use by the rural residents in the solid waste district. Currently, the county operates and maintains these sites.

All the sites accept:
  • household garbage
  • used appliances
  • newsprint
  • magazines
  • glass bottles and jars
  • aluminum cans
  • steel cans
  • plastic soft drink containers
  • plastic milk jugs.
  • #1 and #2 plastic containers (no oil containers)
Elm City, Rock Ridge, Lucama, Sims, and Landfill sites accept triple-rinsed pesticide containers. Corrugated cardboard is accepted at New Hope site, Hwy 42 site, and at the landfill. No packing material or other contaminants, corrugated cardboard only.

Large bulky items may be taken to the convenience center located on the landfill property, or to the site located on Hwy 42 West. Yard waste and construction and demolition must be taken to the landfill convenience center.
