Keep Wilson County Beautiful, works with area volunteers to improve the visual environment of the county through litter abatement and beautification projects; to educate both children and adults about environmental issues affecting Wilson County, and to promote reuse, source reduction and recycling, particularly in the business community. |

Some Keep Wilson County Beautiful programs include Adopt-a-Street: Volunteer groups or individuals are encouraged to adopt-a-street within the city limits of Wilson (4 block minimum). Adopting groups will pick up litter a minimum of four times each year as well as sweep the curb and gutter to help keep litter and leaves out of the storm drains. In return for this service, the City of Wilson will provide your group with all materials, pickup of collected debris and a sign honoring your group on your adopted street. Adopt-A-Highway: This NCDOT program is statewide. KWCB promotes the program by offering information about the program, supplies contracts to interested parties and assists volunteer groups with a local voice for problems and concerns. Annual Paint Collection: KWCB volunteers hold two used paint collections each year, one in the spring and one in the fall. The public is invited to bring in old latex paint, as well as get free paint. For information on how to properly dispose of small amounts of paint call the KWCB office. Big Sweep: This is a statewide waterway litter cleanup, held annually on the third Saturday in September. Volunteers meet at a central location and clean up litter at Lake Wilson, Contentnea Creek, Wiggins Mill Reservoir and the Buckhorn Reservoir. To volunteer or to report an area that needs cleaning, call KWCB. Miss Twiggy: a program designed for children and adults alike, that shows the importance of trees in our environment. The presentation is done by volunteers in a colorful tree costume. Swat a Litter Bug: We accept calls from persons who witness littering. Call in the date, time, license plate number, location and a brief description of what you saw. We send a letter and a car litter bag. Litter Free Events: All community organizations are invited to make their public events litter free.
