Residential Permit Process
Procedure
  1. A septic system permit (when applicable) is required to be issued prior to making application for a building permit. Contact the Wilson County Environmental Health Department at (252) 291-0468.
  2. After the Health Department has issued the septic permit, print a permit application or get one at the Wilson County Inspections department, located at:
    Wilson County Miller Road Office Building

    2201 Miller Rd. S.
    Wilson, NC 27893
    • If the dwelling is located in Black Creek, Elm City, Kenly (Wilson County area only), Lucama, Saratoga, Sharpsburg (Wilson County area only), Sims, Stantonsburg, or the ETJ of either of these towns, then you must obtain the zoning approval from the applicable jurisdiction.
  3. Submit the septic system permit and completed building permit application along with a plot plan and two sets of plans to the Planning and Inspections Department for review and approval. For more information regarding plans, view our plan requirements.
