Outbreak Information

What Happens During an Outbreak in Wilson County?
First of all, your local Health Department monitors reportable disease occurrences on a daily basis. We analyze the data to assess the frequency of any given disease being reported.

We also work closely with the Environmental Health section here at the Health Department as well as the State Communicable Disease Branch and Epidemiologists in Pitt County.

If it is determined we have a higher than normal number of any reportable disease, then we will put into action the plans to address such an incident. Based on the disease, these actions could be anything from interviewing individuals, mass vaccinations, or simply educating the public with things they can do to avoid becoming ill.
