Child Support Unit
Goal
Contact
Corporal N. Penman,

Ph: (252) 399-2862

It is the goal of this Unit to encourage and assist absent parents to take responsibility for and support their children. There are no bigger deadbeats than those who refuse to pay their child support. We will do all that is within our power to see that they meet their court-ordered responsibilities.

Responsibilities
The deputies of this Unit work closely with the Department of Social Services Child Support Team. They serve and enforce a variety of civil actions, which include, but are not limited to:

  • Civil summons
  • Motion / orders to show cause
  • Subpoenas
  • Orders for arrest

If you have any information that will assist us in locating an absent parent who owes thousands of dollars in child support, please call (252) 237-2118 or submit a lead online.

Statistics
In the fiscal year 2007-2008, this Unit served approximately 550 civil summons, 1,425 show causes, and 860 orders for arrest. The combined efforts of the Wilson County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Social Services Child Support Team collected a total of $9,298,672 in child support payments.
