Area IV Envirothon
The
Area IV Envirothon is a competitive event to help prepare and qualify students for the State Envirothon Competition. It is open to high school and middle school students in Area IV counties which include:
- Durham
- Edgecombe
- Franklin
- Granville
- Halifax
- Johnston

- Nash
- Vance
- Wake
- Warren
- Wilson

The Area IV Envirothon was held March 23 at Vollmer Farm in Bunn, NC with Franklin County as host. Twenty one middle school teams and thirty nine high school teams competed to advance to the State Envirothon, which will be held on April 20-21 at Cedarock Park in Burlington, NC. Wilson County had three middle schools earning the right to compete at the state level; Organic Waste and Green Hornets - Home School teams and Enviro-nerds team from Toisnot Middle School. Also advancing will be the Glow Worms - home school team for high school. State Envirothon winners will advance to the national level with that event being held in Pennsylvania.
Environmental Education Program
The District staff are available to provide educational resources to public and private primary and secondary schools throughout the year. The staff will visit classrooms and make presentations to students and assist teachers with environmental education. Resource Conservation Workshop
The Annual Resource Conservation Workshop is held in June each year at North Carolina State University. This workshop provides rising sophomores, juniors and seniors a week-long learning experience with concentrations in conservation, forestry, wastewater, and fisheries.
