On-Site Water Supply

On July 1, 2008 a Private Drinking Water Well program was implemented in Wilson County and statewide. Under this program all new wells will be required to be properly located away from sources of contamination, properly constructed, and sampled prior to being placed into operation.

The Environmental Health Section of the Wilson County Health Department will take water samples to test for bacterial and chemical contamination. Water samples will not be taken unless the well head appears to be properly constructed and protected from contamination.

If a well is not properly grouted, it can become contaminated. At least 20' of cement grouting should be poured around the casing of the newly installed well.
