Foster Care Services for Adults

Foster care services for adults involve recruiting, developing, and evaluating adult care homes to determine if they meet the needs of residents and to help them improve upon their service.

Adult care homes provide 24-hour supervision and must be licensed by the state in order to operate legally. They are not nursing homes, although designated staff can administer medications and provide personal care services (such as assistance with bathing, eating, and dressing).

Wilson County has 15 adult care home in their county provide this service.  Concerns regarding licensure violations or operating a new facility may be directed to the Division of Facility Services or Martha Johnson or Carol Wright. Inquires about services to people with developmental disabilities must be directed to the area mental health program or the Division of Facility Services.
