Is transportation available to the Center?
Transportation is available through the County transportation system for such needs as doctors’ appointments, shopping and
getting to the Center. The transportation phone number is: 399-2817 and Elaine Swinson is coordinator.
The 15 passenger van shared by the Wilson and Black Creek Centers is available if someone can make arrangements in advance.
The Director can set this up.
Is anyone available to look after my elderly relative at the Center?
While everyone is most welcome to come to the Center, it is not to be used as a drop in service for Eldercare.
Those who attend need to be able to function on their own during programs and activities.
Staff limitations keep us from being able to spend our whole time with 1 participant.
Encourage those who need assistance to bring a friend or relative to help.
What are the dates of upcoming activities?
All activities are posted on the board in the hallway as well as in the monthly newsletter.
Encourage all seniors to get a newsletter for easy reference when they are at home.
How do I know when special events are scheduled?
Events like workshops and meetings with representatives from various organizations are posted in the newsletter.
Additionally, there is a calendar on the Reception desk specifically for this purpose.
Can you give me the name and phone number of ______ (agency)?
For local agencies, check the phone book or the desk reference book located on the reception desk.
For out of area agencies, the resource book located in the hallway is an excellent guide.
Topics are separated for easy access. You may make copies of any information in the resource book, but
please do not let anyone take the originals.
What are the fees involved in the Center?
The Senior Center prides itself on keeping costs low for all. Daily activities such as exercise, cards,
pool playing and bingo have not cost. When meals are served, a donation basket is passed.
The red Hat Society collects $1.00 per month in dues. The only fees are for craft class and cooking class,
the actual cost of supplies is divided among the participants. Trips are all paid for by the participant at
the rate given to us by the tour company. Not profit is added.
What is the age at which you can join the facility?
The age for participation is 55. Family members and friends are invited to go on the trips.
Those under 55 with a disability can be given special permission to use the facility by the Director.
Are you open on evenings and weekends?
We are currently open from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. every day except Thursdays, when we are open until 7:00 p.m.
We have tried being open on Sunday afternoons in the past, but the response wasn’t good.
Should our participants express the desire to have additional hours, we will make every effort to do so.
Do we give receipts for donations?
The Senior Center is a private, non-profit 501C3 agency. Therefore, any donations to us can be used as a tax exemption
by donators. However, volunteer work, excluding travel, cannot be used as a tax deduction.
Can we use volunteers?
Volunteers are always welcome. They can answer phones, help with programs, teach classes, clean or cook, and much more.
Please encourage volunteers to come whenever they are able. Hours are kept in the volunteer binder located at the desk.
Each year, there is a Volunteer Appreciation Day.
