Wilson County DSS has started a new Food and Nutrition Case Management System designed by the state of North Carolina, NC FAST. While the ultimate goal is improved efficiency and service, initially customers may see some delays.

This may cause Food and Nutrition customers to experience a delay to receive benefits. “We anticipate this to be temporary and we have worked extremely hard to make sure cases have a smooth transition,” said Evelyn Scott, Food and Nutrition supervisor. “Our goal is to serve our citizens quickly and once this initial implementation is over, our speed will improve.”

Staff have been learning the new system and learning from the experiences of other counties across the state. “The state has rolled out the new system in phases and we have been in contact with those counties so that our transition works as well as possible,” said Glenn Osborne, director.

The agency is asking customers to use the Express Application Center, in the agency’s lobby, to make applications or changes to their cases or reviews. Wilson County DSS was the first in the state to introduce the Express Center.

DSS is also working with other community agencies for families with immediate food needs so that families do not go hungry. Resources are posted online.

Osborne says throughout this process the focus has not changed “We want citizens to know that we are working to serve them. Our customers remain our top priority.”
