Wilson County DSS' VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) staff are busy helping Wilson families save money. Staff started helping citizens on January 24.

This is the 9th year that volunteers are busy providing free tax preparation services for low-to-moderate income families in our community.

The DSS VITA site has specific goals to provide outreach and education to working families about the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit and to continue the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site to provide free tax preparation for families with income levels $51,000 or less.

Amber Denning, VITA coordinator explains that staff are working hard and ready to help. "We are excited to help families save money. Our VITA program provides free tax preparation and information on savings, asset building, homeownership programs, and much more."

DSS staff volunteers, along with Barton College and Wilson Community College volunteers are trained by the Internal Revenue Service and provide free electronic filing.

Services are provided at the Career Plus office, 114 Pine St., NE, Wilson, NC.

Tuesdays & Thursdays 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
