[ARCHIVED] Secretary Wos visits Wilson County DSS

Sec. Wos and DSS Management

DSS commended for its progress with NC FAST

NC DHHS Secretary Wos visited with staff at the Wilson County Department of Social Services. She toured the facility, met with staff and commended the county for its progress with implementing NC FAST, the new web-based case management tool being rolled-out by DHHS at social services agencies across North Carolina.

An interesting anecdote.. Wilson DSS Director Glenn Osborne shared with us that in more than 19 years as director, he never before had a DHHS Secretary visit the Wilson facility. The secretary has been spending alot of time on the road to visit community partners, some of whom have never been engaged by a DHHS Secretary before.. for ideas.. for feedback.. for dialogue.. and sometimes to give recognition for the important work they do in the community.

During this trip, Secretary Wos learned about many creative and innovative initiatives happening at Wilson DSS, such as the county’s self-service express center. The express center is staffed by a DSS worker and includes a bank of computers where clients are able to apply for services. Wilson DSS uses the express center to reduce the time clients spend sitting the waiting room.
