Advisory Council
The regular monthly meeting of the Advisory Council will be held on Monday, May 11, 2015 at 9:00 am in the kitchen.  The Advisory Council is an important part of the center.  The members help decide on new programs and activities at the center and help decide how we can better serve the seniors of Wilson County.  All members of the center are invited to attend these meetings.                    
  
Art Classes
Horace Raper is teaching beginning art classes every Wednesday from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm in the kitchen.  Basic supplies are provided.  Call the center's office if you are interested in joining the free classes. 
    
Breakfast
Our monthly breakfast will be held on the last Tuesday of the month, May 26, 2015 beginning at 9:00 am in the kitchen.  We serve bacon, eggs, biscuits, grits, pastry and juice.  Please be sure to sign up so that we can have enough for all.
      
Chair Exercise
We have received our new DVD's for exercise.  Plan to check them out every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 am for a 20 minute toning session and 9:30 am to 10:15 am for chair dancing.  If you have problems with balance or cannot stand for long, this is the class for you.  Open to all and no cost.

Closing
The center will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2015 in observance of Memorial Day.  We hope that you all have a happy and safe holiday.  We will reopen at 7:30 am on Tuesday, May 26, 2015.

Cooking Around the World
In May, let's take a "trip" to China for our cooking class.  As a group, we will prepare Pineapple Chicken, Beef Chow Mein and a Dessert.  We will sit down together to enjoy what we have prepared when it is finished.  We will meet Monday, May 18, 2015 at 10:00 am in the kitchen to get started.  There is a $4 charge per person for purchasing the ingredients.  Please sign up on the board.  
  
Computer Classes at the Library
Computer Basics:  
Friday, May 15, 2015 from 9:00 am until 10:30 am; and Tuesday, May 26, 2015 from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm.  Internet Basics: Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 12:00 pm until 1:30 pm; and Wednesday, May 6, 2015 from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm.  Intro to Excel: Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 2:00 pm until 3:30 pm.  Intro to Power Point: Wednesday, May 27, 2015 from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm.

Dine Out Club
In May, the Dine Out Club will travel to Smithfield to White Swan Barbecue on May 27, 2015.  We will leave the center at 11:00 am for lunch (on your own).  Van transportation will be provided.  Please sign up if you would like to attend.   
  
Game Day
Spend the afternoon playing your favorite games -- cards, pool, checkers, board games, cornhole and more.  Anyone who is interested in playing is invited on Monday, May 18, 2015 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm.  You can get a group together or play by yourself.  We will have a light supper available at 5:00 pm for a nominal charge.  Let us know what you would like to play and we will help set it up for you.  Sign up on the board if you would like supper.  The menu and more information will be posted.
 
Memorial Day Cookout
Our annual cookout to start the season will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2015 beginning at 5:00 pm at the pavilion (weather permitting).  We will have traditional cookout food and will have the outdoor games available -- horseshoes, corn hole, shuffleboard, etc.  Please sign up on the board if you would like to attend.

Mother's Day Make-Your-Own Ice Cream Sundae Bar
We will have a social celebrating Mother's Day on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 beginning at 1:00 pm.  We will have ice cream and toppings to make your own sundae.  Sign up on the board if you will be attending.

Senior Awareness Day
The 22nd Annual Senior Awareness Day will be May 8, 2015 from 9:00 am until 1:30 pm at Farmington Heights Church.  This event honors seniors and disabled adults and provides education, information, health screenings and entertainment at no cost to the attendees.  You can register for this event starting April 1, 2015.  For more information on this event, contact Candice Rountree at 252/265-8338.  Applications are available in the office at the Senior Center.  
   
Senior Center
On Monday, May 4, 2015, there will be an opening ceremony at 9:00 am at the Gillette Athletic Complex in Wilson.  This will give information about the upcoming 2015 Down East Senior Games.
 
Travel Club
The Travel Club meets on the last Tuesday of the month beginning at 1:00 pm.  Plan to attend to see what plans are in the making for upcoming trips and bring some ideas of your own.

Library: Shelving books (1 person twice a month)

Mother's Day Social: set up and cleanup (May 6, 2015)
Reception Area: answering telephones and greeting members (1-2 per day)
Thursday Evening Dinner: set up and cleanup (2 people every Thursday)
  
Yoga
Because Carol Murray will be away, there will be no Yoga class on April 27th or May 4th.  Remember that Yoga meets every Monday at 9:30 am in the Multi-Purpose Room.  Come check it out.

Zumba Toning
On Thursday evenings before the regular Zumba class, Kim will offer a toning session beginning at 4:30 pm.  Come see what it is all about.
