June Happenings

The monthly meeting will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 9:00 am in the kitchen.  Meetings will be held every month on the second Monday.  All members of the center are invited to hear about upcoming plans for the center.  We will also take suggestions about activities and events that you would like to see. Please plan to join us.

Keep your eyes on the calendar for events coming up in September celebrating our 20th Anniversary.  There will be lots of activities for our registered members.

Join us for exercise from your chair every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday beginning at 8:00 am in the Multi-Purpose Room.  The new DVD is finally in and can be used for this class.  
The winner of the coloring contest for May is April is LouAnn Batchelor.  Congratulations!!  The coloring club meets every Tuesday beginning at 11:00 am in the kitchen.  Pictures and pencils/pens are available or you can bring your own from home.  The theme for June is "Summer".          
Craft Club will be held on the 1st & 3rd Wednesdays in June.  This is a time to bring a craft that you are working on or make a craft for distribution to some of our seniors (supplies provided).  We meet at 1:00 pm on the 7th and 21st.    
         -  June 14, 2017 -- Patriotic Clothespin Wreath:  Complete a red, white and blue wreath for the upcoming holiday.  The cost is $12 per project.  Please sign up in the office by June 12, 2017.    
         -    June 28, 2017 == Sea Glass Picture:  Use glass pieces to make a picture on glass.  The cost is $10 per project.  Please sign up in the office by June 26, 2017.        
All supplies to complete your projects will be provided.  
The restaurant for May is Larry's Restaurant in Raleigh.  We will leave the center at 10:30 am for lunch on your own.  Please sign up in the office and pay $2.00 to reserve your space.    
There will be no Dine Out Club in June because of transportation issues.  We will have our next Dine Out on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 going to Milton's Italian in Raleigh.  We will leave the center at 10:30 am for the lunch buffer (or you may order off the menu)   
We hope that everyone is enjoying the water filling station at the fountain area.  With the warmer weather coming, we need to stay hydrated and healthy.  If you didn't receive a bottle, see the office and we can get some more.

Join us for pastries, coffee and juice to celebrate our Dad's on Friday, June 16, 2017 beginning at 9:00 am in the Recreation Room. 

The Center will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 in observance of Independence Day.  We will reopen on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 7:30 am.  We hope that you all have a happy and safe holiday week.

At our scheduled Thursday dinner on June 29, 2017, we will have a celebration for Independence Day at 5:00 pm at the pavilion (weather permitting).  Sign up in the office by the June 28, 2017 at noon.
Please continue to scan in when you arrive at the center.  This system helps us follow our programs and see how the response is.  It also lets us know that you are in the building.  This is an important part of the center and we appreciate you using your card when you come in.  Don't have a card?  Please stop by the office to get yours today.

A representative from Physicians Pharmacy will be at the center on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 10:30 am until 11:30 am to pass along information about their pharmacy and to answer questions you may have.  Stop by the table on June 23, 2017 for more information.

Meetings will resume in September for the group.    
The group continues every Monday from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm in the Multi-Purpose Room.  The cost is $5 per class.  Join in on the fun and exercise.  
The menu for June is:  June 1st --
Pulled Pork Barbecue, Boiled Potatoes and Slaw; June 8th -- Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, Peas; June 15th -- Spaghetti, Salad; June 22nd -- Pork Chop Casserole, Cabbage,; and June 29th -- 4th of July Cookout -- BBQ Chicken, Potato Salad, & Green Beans.  All dinners also include bread, dessert and tea.  ***Dinner is at 5:00 pm; you must sign up by 12:00 noon on the Wednesday before the mal; and if you usually have leftovers from your meal, please bring a container to take it home.        
Following Thursday dinner on June 29, 2017, there will be a meeting with updated trip information.  It is our hope that we will have the final itineraries for Hawaii and Lancaster at this time.  Plan to join us at 6:00 pm.  

Learn how to play the ukulele in this 4 week camp.  All ages.  No experience needed.  There will be 2 Sessions: June 6th, 13th, 20th, & 27th or July 11th, 18th, 25th or August 1st.  The cost per session is: Individual -- $20; Family $30; and Senior 50+ -- Free.  The location will be in the Senior Center Recreation Room.  call Jo Mintern for more information at (252) 363-1705. 
Advisory Council: 
New members are needed to plan activities and bring new ideas to the staff.  We meet every month on the second Tuesday beginning at 9:00 am in the kitchen.  (June 12, 2017) 
Birthday Party: The first Tuesday of the month immediately following Bingo (around 2:30 pm) is a chance to celebrate birthdays for the month with cake and drank.  Volunteers to set up and clean up are always welcome.  (June 6, 2017)
4th of July Cookout: This cookout will be on June 29, 2017 at 5:00 pm
Instructors:  Do you have a skill that you would like to teach others?  Let the office know and we can arrange a schedule for you.
Library: Our books need to be shelved quite a few times every month due to people borrowing and returning.  Anyone who can spend a little time sorting and shelving would be greatly appreciated.
Reception Area:  We are in need of someone to answer phones, gives tours and greet guests on Mondays and Wednesdays after 12:00 noon.  No experience necessary.
Thursday Evening Dinner:  Between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm, we need help setting up the tables and getting the food on the table.  Following the meal we need help clearing tables, washing and sanitizing tables and getting dishes prepared for the dishwasher.  (June 1st, 8th, 15th & 22nd)
Stop by the office to get your log sheet to keep track of the distance you have walked.  You can walk at the center or in your own neighborhood or walking trail.  Turn in the sheets to the office so that we can keep track of how far our members have walked.   

On June 16th & 17th, there will be the 100 mile yard sale going on all over 301 from Weldon to Roanoke Rapids.  We will jump on the bandwagon on our "Almost 301 Yard Sale" on Saturday, June 17, 2017.  e will start at 7:00 am and continue until 4:00 pm.  There will be signs placed along 301 to let people know that we are here as well as an ad in the Wilson Times.  Reserve your space for $5 (includes 1 table -- you may bring more if needed).  We expect a lot of people from out of town to attend this event, so sign up early!!!!!
