July Happenings

Due to the fourth of July holiday, the Advisory Council meeting will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016 beginning at 9:00 am in the kitchen.  All participants are invited to bring ideas and help plan future activities and events for the center.
Our monthly breakfast will be held, as always on the last Tuesday of the month beginning at 9:00 am in the kitchen on July 26, 2016.  You will have until Friday, July 22, 2016 to get your tickets in the office.  Remember that all are welcome to enjoy eggs, bacon, biscuits, grits, pastry, orange juice and coffee.
Adult coloring books are all the rage right now, so we are going to have our very own Coloring Club.  The experts say that coloring reduces stress and blood pressure while being an enjoyable activity.  Find out what it's all about at our new club every Tuesday, July 5th, 12th, 19th, & 26th at 11:00 am.  We have plenty of coloring pages as well as colored pencils and gel pens.  Bring your own if you have them.
The coloring contest for May had the theme "Birds".  The winner was Annie Jones.  For June, our theme was "Animals".  The winner was Sandy Daughtridge.  They both won a new coloring book and pencils.  There is a choice of 4 different pictures at the desk to choose from for July.  You can color as many as you want, but can only enter two.  Congratulations to our winners!

We are finally nearing completion on the front reception area.  Please continue to bear with us while we finish this project and make a bright and welcoming area.
We will meet on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 9:00 am in the kitchen to exchange coupons and learn about sources for getting coupons.  Bring your extras and come for some information as well.
Due to the vans not being available during the summer, the next Dine Out will be on Wednesday, August 24, 2016.  We will leave the center at 10:30 am to travel to Benson for a visit to the Meadow Village Restaurant.  Lunch is on your own and transportation will be provided for up to 26 people.  Please sign up on the board if you would like to join us.
If you have not been to the Farmer's Market on Green Street, you are missing out on a great event.  Every Wednesday from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm, anyone can shop for produce, crafts, meats, baked goods and more.  There is also food and often music.  There is a booth set up to help promote Downtown Wilson and all it has to offer.  Volunteers are needed for shifts from 8:30 am until 10:30 am and 10:30 am until 1:00 pm.  All the information you need will be given to you.  This is a great chance for those of you who call Wilson home, to really promote the city.  Signup sheets are at the desk at the center for anyone who can spare sometime for this fun event.
The center will be closed on Monday, July 4, 2016 in observance of Independence Day.  We will reopen at 7:30 am on Tuesday, July 5, 2016.  The center staff wishes all of you a safe and happy weekend.
On Thursday, July 14, 2016, Richard Scott, a member of the Governor's Advisory Council, will be at the center at 4:00 pm to receive input from seniors about issues to be taken back to the Governor's Office.  Let your voice be heard and plan to attend this event.
Even though Jack has had some medical issues, the class still meets every Tuesday and Friday at 8:00 am in the Multi-Purpose Room for some light aerobic exercises.  All are welcome to join us.
There will be a celebration and fireworks at the Wilson County Fairgrounds this year.  The center will be involved in a number of ways.  Besides being at the event, we could use some help.  We are in need of: Bakers -- to bake a cake for the auction which will benefit the Wilson Crisis Center; Booth People -- We will be giving out information and having some games and could use some help manning the booth; and Pie Eating Contest -- people are needed to cheer on the contestants and give out prizes.
