August Happenings

Advisory Council
The regular monthly meeting of the Advisory Council will be held on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 9:00 am in the kitchen.  The Advisory Council is an important part of the center.  The members help decide on new programs and activities at the center and help decide how we can better serve the seniors of Wilson County.  All members of the center are invited to attend these meetings.

Breakfast
Our monthly breakfast will be held on the last Tuesday of the month, August 25, 2015 beginning at 9:00 am in the kitchen.  We serve bacon, eggs, biscuits, grits, pastry and juice.  Please be sure to sign up so that we can have enough for all.

Dine Out Club
In August, the Dine Out Club will travel to Oak Level Cafe, on Wednesday, August 26, 2015.  We will leave the center at 11:00 am for lunch (on your own).  Van transportation will be provided.  Please sign up if you would like to attend.

Spend the afternoon playing your favorite games -- cards, pool, checkers, board games, corn hole and more.  Anyone who is interested in playing is invited on Monday, August 17, 2015 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm.  You can get a group together or play by yourself.  We will have a light supper available at 5:00 pm for a nominal charge.  Let us know what you would like to play and we will help set it up for you.  Sign up on the board if you would like supper.  The menu and more information will be posted.

Key Cards
We have received a new shipment of key cards in the office.  If you did not receive yours when you registered, please stop by the office so one can be issued to you.  Because of the high cost of the cards, each participant will be issued their first one for free and any replacements will be $1.00.  Be sure to use your card each time you enter the center.  These are a great tool to assist us in planning activities and programs.

The ladies who have begun to attend the second Red Hat Club Meetings, have decided that this club will meet on the first Wednesday of the month at 9:00 am.  This club is for new members and for those who would rather meet on Wednesday instead of Monday.  You can choose which club to belong to, but only need to be in one.  Plan to come on August 5, 2015 to help plan activities and outings for this club.

Thursday Dinner
To make it easier for planning Thursday meals, we have instituted a few changes to the dinner format.  You can now purchase tickets to the meal between Thursday (following the meal) and Wednesday at noon (the day before the meal).  This will give us an accurate count of those who will be attending.  you will also have until Wednesday at noon to let us know if you cannot come and we will transfer your ticket to the following week.  If you do not have a ticket, you may still attend and will be served, based on the food still available, after those who have tickets.  We begin the meal at 5:00 pm every Thursday and all are welcome to attend.  Menus will be announced on Thursday's for the following week.
