April Happenings

Dine Out Club
Since there are five Tuesdays in this month, the Dine Out Club will meet on the fourth Tuesday (April 22nd) to travel as a group for lunch.  We will be visiting the Lowell Mill Restaurant in Kenly which we were unable to go to previously because of the weather.  We will leave the center at 11:15 am.  Please sign up on the board.  All are welcome.

Drop Light Class
If you look over the first doorway when entering the center, you will see a sample of the drop lights that we will be making at our class on April 23rd beginning at 10:00 am.  The light can be made in any color you choose and looks great in the home or on the patio.  Join our instructor, James Smith, for this fun class.  Please sign up and prepay in the office and be sure to let us know the colors you would like for your lights.

Down East Senior Games
We are gearing up for the Annual Senior Games to be held this year in Tarboro.  There are so many activities that you can participate in sporting events, arts and crafts, literary and more.  A series of workshop will be held every Thursday until April 17th.  A new rule this year is that participants only need to be 50 years old or older to participate.  The previous age was 55.  Players are grouped by age category for all sporting events.  Our schedule for workshops is:
  • April 3rd -- Billards (in the Recreation Room)
  • April 10th -- Basketball Shooting (at the basketball goal -- weather permitting)
  • April 17th -- Corn hole (by the pavilion -- weather permitting)

Plan to be a part of the games!  Applications are available at the center.  If you would like more information, see Sandra or call 252/206-4059.

It's not Easter if we do not have our Annual Egg Hunt followed by a social.  The fun begins at 1:00 pm on Thursday, April 17th in the backyard.  Bring a bag or basket for your finds and join us for desserts and snacks immediately following.  Everyone can join in on the fun.  Please be sure to sign up on the board.

Fellowship Breakfast
This month the breakfast will be held on the fifth Tuesday (April 29th) beginning at 9:00 am in the kitchen.  Join us for eggs, bacon, grits and more as well as a chance to sit and socialize with other seniors.  A signup sheet is on the board.

Group Drumming
We are really excited to be able to start offering drumming in a group which will lead us to having a Rhythm Band as well as a Percussion Band.  There are great benefits to drumming both for the body and the mind.  More details will be on the easel in the hallway.  Please sign up to see what this is all about.  There will also be a demonstration on Friday, April 4th during the Music Jam break (around 1:30 pm) for anyone who would like to see what it's all about.

Senior Games
The annual Senior games is right around the corner and we hope that many Wilson County Seniors will participate.  Try your hand at shuffleboard, corn hole, track and field and lots more.  The good news is that the age requirements has changed, you may now compete at the age of 50.  Take advantage of this great opportunity for competition, socialization and health.  The events are being held in Tarboro this year and we can arrange transportation for anyone who needs it.  More information and applications are available in the office.
