Environmental Field Days
Fourth graders from Wilson County learn while having fun! In April, students learn about wildlife, soil, aquatics, forestry, soil conservation, plants, and animals. Stations for aquatics, soils, and soil conservation are hosted by Wilson Soil and Water staff.
2016 event was held at the Batts Farm in Macclesfield. Teachers may contact Connie Bailey at Extension Services at 252-237-0111, to schedule for their group to attend.
The Association's Education Committee poster contest theme for 2016-2017 is "Soil & Water..Yours for Life" in which grades third, fourth, and fifth participate. Sixth graders may participate in the poster, essay and slide show presentation contest. Seventh and eighth graders participate in the public speaking contest. All students must first compete in the District Contest. Students that place first in their categories advance to the Area IV Contest competition, and those first place winners advance to the State Contest.
Awards BanquetEach year over one hundred people attended the Annual Awards Banquet in December at the Agricultural Building, which is made possible by the County and our other sponsors: Branch Banking and Trust, Perry's Bulldozer Service, Bridgestone Americas,Wilson County Farm Bureau, A. Carroll Coleman of Farm Management Services and Crop Production Services.
Educator of the YearEach year, a Wilson County educator is selected by the Soil and Water Conservation District as Educator of the Year. This individual is recognized at the Awards Banquet in December for their dedication to environmental education.
Ag Cost Share Tour
In March of each year, the Wilson County Soil and Water Conservation District holds the annual cost share tour. The supervisors and office staff first meet at the Ag. Center for a brief board meeting. Then, a tour is included to randomly-selected areas throughout the County where cost share practices have been applied.
